Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is set to join his team for their White House visit on Friday, despite recent political controversy. Butker, who delivered a polarizing commencement speech at Benedictine College earlier this month, sharply criticized President Joe Biden's policies, particularly on abortion.

In his speech to the graduates of the small Catholic college in Atchison, Kansas, Butker condemned Biden for what he perceives as hypocrisy in the president’s public stances. “Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as the growing support for degenerate cultural values in media, all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder,” Butker said.

Butker's comments have sparked significant backlash from various corners of the sports world. Critics include the wife of a former teammate, an ex-Chiefs cheerleader, and several women in sports media. Despite the uproar, Butker’s teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, have defended him personally while distancing themselves from his remarks.

The Chiefs are visiting the White House to celebrate their second consecutive Super Bowl victory, having triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. Butker, known for his consistency on the field, had an impressive season, making 33 out of 35 field goals and all 38 extra points.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refrained from confirming Butker's attendance. “We invite the entire team, and it’s up to them who comes and who doesn’t,” she stated earlier this month.
