Prince William and Kate Middleton have been through a lot in the past year, from losing Queen Elizabeth II to dealing with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell revelations. But despite the challenges, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have remained a united front and a source of stability for the monarchy.
According to royal journalist Omid Scobie, who is releasing his updated book Endgame in December 2023, William and Kate's marriage is "solid" and they continue to "work as a team." The author also writes that William is "incredibly proud" of Kate's achievements as a senior working member of the royal family, who has taken on more responsibilities and initiatives in the areas of mental health, early childhood development, and the environment.
The couple, both 41, have also been busy with their royal engagements, traveling across the U.K. and abroad to meet with various leaders, organizations, and communities. Most recently, they attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace earlier this month, where they dazzled in their formal attire and mingled with the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, and First Lady Kim Keon Hee.
But amid their hectic schedules, William and Kate have also made time for their family, especially their three children: Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 5. The pair often share glimpses of their domestic life on social media, posting adorable photos and videos of their kids on special occasions. For Thanksgiving, William and Kate shared a video of them and their children preparing a turkey and expressing their gratitude for their loved ones.
While William and Kate have been focusing on their jobs and their family, they have also faced rumors of marital troubles. Last month, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the Prince and Princess of Wales have "ups and downs in their marriage like everyone else." However, the source added that the couple always tries to be a "unit" and support each other through the difficult times.
One of the major sources of tension for William and Kate has been their strained relationship with William's brother Harry and his wife Meghan, who stepped down from their senior royal roles in 2020 and moved to California. The rift between the brothers worsened after Harry and Meghan opened up about their issues with the royal family in their 2022 docuseries, Harry & Meghan, where they accused the palace of racism, neglect, and lies.
In the series, Meghan also recalled the awkwardness of meeting Kate and William for the first time, saying that she was "a hugger" and that the British royals were very "formal." She also claimed that Kate made her cry before her wedding to Harry in 2018, contradicting previous reports that it was the other way around.
Despite the drama, William and Kate have not given up on repairing their bond with Harry and Meghan. According to Scobie, the couples have been in touch via phone and video calls, and have even exchanged gifts for their children. Scobie also writes that William and Kate are hopeful that they can reconcile with Harry and Meghan in person, and that they are planning to invite them to their 10th wedding anniversary celebration in April 2024.
