Patrick J. Adams is saying goodbye to his furry friend.

On Friday, the Suits actor, 42, announced in an emotional Instagram post that his 17-year-old terrier died, as he honored the dog’s “big heart” and celebrated his life.

“You know it’s coming and the knowing makes no difference at all. At 1:47pm we said goodbye to Charlie. 17 years old,” Adams’ post — which was accompanied by a carousel of photographs that featured Charlie at various stages in his life, as well as photos of him alongside the actor — began.

“He was my best friend. He was my first child. He was my teacher. He was my therapist. He was my role model. He was my conscience. He was my co-pilot. He was my wingman. He was my rock. He was my shadow. He was my protector. He was my soulmate,” he continued.

Adams went on to share some of the memories he had with Charlie, from traveling the world together, to meeting his wife Troian Bellisario, to welcoming their daughter Aurora, who is now 2 years old.

“He was there for it all. Every time I walked through the door he was the first to greet me. Every night when I went to bed he was the last to say goodnight. Every morning when I woke up he was the first to say good morning,” he wrote.

“He never wanted anything but my love. And I never stopped giving it to him. He gave me more than I could ever give back. He saved me more times than I can count. He taught me more than I could ever learn. He made me a better person than I ever thought I could be. He made me a father before I had a child. He was the best thing that ever happened to me,” he added.

Adams also thanked Charlie for being his loyal companion and for “never giving up” on him.

“I will miss you every day for the rest of my life. I will see you in my dreams. I will always love you. Thank you for loving me. Rest In Peace my sweet boy,” he concluded.

The actor’s post was met with an outpouring of support from his fans and fellow celebrities, who expressed their condolences and shared their own stories of losing a pet.

“Sending you so much love. I’m so sorry,” commented his former Suits co-star Sarah Rafferty.

“I’m so sorry Patrick. He was such a special boy. Sending you and your family so much love,” wrote Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson.

“Oh Patrick. I’m so sorry. I know this pain and it’s unbearable. Sending you so much love,” added actress Sophia Bush.

Adams and Bellisario, who tied the knot in 2016, are both animal lovers and have adopted several rescue dogs over the years. In 2018, they welcomed their daughter Aurora, who also inherited their passion for pets.

In a recent interview with People, Adams said that his daughter is “obsessed” with their dogs and loves to play with them.

“She’s just so gentle with them, and she knows how to pet them and she knows how to offer them treats,” he said. “She’s really, really sweet with them. And they’re very sweet back.”
