Chorley FC fans were treated to a star-studded surprise on Saturday as Boyzone’s Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy, and Westlife’s Brian McFadden, attended the club’s match against Altrincham.
The trio, who are part of the pop supergroup Boyzlife, are in talks to represent Chorley FC as ambassadors and investors, as they aim to boost the club’s profile and community outreach.
Lynch and Duffy, who have been friends since their Boyzone days, revealed their interest in Chorley FC in a pre-game interview with the club’s media team.
“We’ve been looking for a club to get involved with for a while, and we were impressed by Chorley FC’s history, passion, and vision,” Lynch said.
“We want to help the club grow and reach new heights, and also to build the community and give back to the fans who have supported us over the years,” Duffy added.
McFadden, who joined Boyzlife in 2019 after leaving Westlife in 2004, said he was excited to be part of the project and to experience the atmosphere at Victory Park.
“It’s great to be here and to see the fans’ enthusiasm and love for the club. We’re looking forward to working with the club and the fans to make Chorley FC a success story,” McFadden said.
The pop stars, who have sold over 100 million records worldwide, mingled with the fans and posed for pictures before the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Chorley FC manager Jamie Vermiglio said he was delighted to have the Boyzlife stars at the game and hoped to seal the deal with them soon.
“They’re fantastic lads and they have a genuine interest in the club and the town. They have a lot of experience and influence in the entertainment industry, and they can bring a lot of benefits to Chorley FC,” Vermiglio said.
“We’re in the final stages of negotiations and we hope to announce something official in the next few weeks. It’s a very exciting time for the club and the fans,” he added.
