Brittany Cartwright has publicly fired back at critics making comments about her 3-year-old son Cruz’s well-being amid her separation from Jax Taylor. The "Vanderpump Rules" alum took to Instagram on Tuesday to address the remarks.
“You guys can reel in the drama of my life I don’t care but leave my innocents [sic] sons name out of it!!! Don’t act like you know anything about him watching 30 mins of a show recorded last summer,” Cartwright wrote in a pointed Instagram Story.
“I do everything I possibly can for him so how dare some of you!?” she continued. “ENOUGH he is a perfect and innocent child and I will not have strangers acting like they know what’s going on in his life.”
Cartwright, 35, did not specify the comments that triggered her response, but a source told People that she is “hurt” by the remarks about her son’s well-being. The insider emphasized that both Cartwright and Taylor remain dedicated to their son despite their marital issues.
“She is highly protective over her son as any caring mother would be. Despite what she is going through personally in her marriage, her and Jax have always and continue to put their son first,” the source said. “He remains their number one priority and they have done a great job co-parenting during this rather turbulent time.”
Cartwright and Taylor welcomed Cruz in April 2021. The couple announced their separation in February on their podcast, “When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany.” At the time, Cartwright expressed her commitment to focusing on her role as a mother.
“I’m taking things one day at a time,” Cartwright said. “I don’t know what the future holds, but right now my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz.”
In March, Cartwright gave more details about their split, citing ongoing issues that had been unresolved for some time. She reiterated her decision to step away from Taylor for the benefit of their son.
“Whenever you fight with somebody for so long, there’s only so much you can take, and you know, I deserve better, Cruz deserves better,” she told TMZ.
Despite the challenges, Cartwright and Taylor have been seen maintaining a civil relationship. They attended the White House Correspondents’ Garden Brunch in Washington, D.C., together in April and celebrated Cruz’s birthday that same month. However, Taylor was recently spotted on a lunch date with model Paige Woolen, sparking further speculation about the couple’s future.
Cartwright remains adamant that their separation was the best decision for her and Cruz, stating that the absence of conflict in front of their son has been beneficial.
“I think it’s honestly been better because we aren’t fighting in front of [Cruz],” she told People in April. “And for me, I think that’s what is most important right now.”
As Cartwright continues to navigate this difficult period, she remains focused on her son’s happiness and well-being, urging the public to respect their privacy.
