Doja Cat has taken to Instagram to call out her absentee father, South African dancer Dumisani Dlamini, in a series of scathing posts. The "Scarlet" rapper initially wrote, “Dad, lemme know when/if you need me to re-up your makeup cabinet cuz you a bitch,” but later edited the caption to, “I’m gonna turn you into my next project and y0u’re gonna have to listen to it for the rest of your god forsaken life.” Eventually, she softened the message to, “jk love you i was mad.”
In the comments, Doja continued to vent her frustration, telling one fan to “Go give the deadbeat a kiss on the lips for me.” When another user criticized her for being disrespectful, she retorted, “Gave me a lazy eye and dipped.”
Doja Cat has previously spoken about her strained relationship with Dlamini, admitting that she has never met him. “He’s an incredible dancer and a great actor. But yeah, I don’t know him very well,” she told Radio One D.C. She expressed similar sentiments in a Rolling Stone interview, stating, “It’s a little strange to see everybody else with their dad, and you didn’t even really have one.”
Despite the public fallout, Dlamini has praised his daughter’s success, telling GQ South Africa last year, “I’m so proud of her for what she has achieved. I’m not surprised, because it’s in the blood.”
This incident is not the first time Doja Cat’s family issues have made headlines. Earlier this year, her mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, claimed in a court filing that her son, Raman, had been violent towards both her and Doja. Sawyer sought a restraining order, alleging that Raman’s assault left her with cuts and bruises, and that he had verbally and physically threatened Doja, leaving the Grammy-winner feeling “unsafe and traumatized.”
The ongoing family drama highlights the complex and often painful personal life behind Doja Cat's public persona, revealing a history of conflict and estrangement that continues to influence her work and personal relationships.
