Memphis, Tennessee – In a landmark ruling, a judge at the Shelby County court has decided that the iconic Graceland mansion, once home to rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, will remain in the family. The estate, which has been at the center of a legal battle, will continue to be controlled by Elvis’ granddaughter, actress Riley Keough.
Legal Battle Over Graceland
The dispute arose when Naussany Investments and Private Lending LLC claimed ownership of Graceland. They alleged that Lisa Marie Presley, Riley’s mother, had used the estate as collateral for a $3.8 million loan that she failed to repay before her untimely death in January 2023. Riley Keough, however, challenged this claim, labeling the note and deed as “fraudulent and unenforceable” in her lawsuit against the company.
Unique Status of Graceland
Chancellor JoeDae Jenkins emphasized the unique status of Graceland under Tennessee law. He ruled that the impending foreclosure would cause “irreparable harm” to Riley Keough, and therefore, the auction must be delayed until the court determines the rightful owner. The estate holds immense historical and cultural significance, having been the residence of Elvis Presley until his passing in 1977. Elvis, along with his parents and daughter Lisa Marie, is laid to rest on the grounds.
Priscilla Presley’s Reaction
Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife and Lisa Marie’s mother, expressed her opinion on social media. She shared a photo of the legendary home with the caption: “It’s a scam.” The family’s determination to retain ownership of Graceland remains unwavering.
